Shorter Oxford English App Reviews

Wow!

Excellent, Perfect, everything I want. Im excited!

Cheap men

Congratulations on the update. Ive now a permanent advertisement on the home page! 30 dollars later, and Ive a fine bit of rubbish staring contemptuously back at me - mostly cause programmers would rather sh*t on a client, than please him. You know, we should have refund rights after an update, dont you think?

Older version was excellent...

What has happened? The previous version of this dictionary seemed to be perfect, offering plenty of options for arcane and odd or out-of-date words as well as those in current usage. I was constantly pleasantly surprised by its utility, and there were no annoying promotions or ads in the paid edition. I feel like I have to struggle with the new version. Please put it back the way it was!

Another update, another downgrade

Apparently this $30 Shorter OED is so lacking that every time I use the app Ill be in want of another dictionary. The publishers have thoughtfully addressed that issue by opening to a page of ads for their other dictionaries, prompting me to buy another winner from them. Humm... The real problem with this version is that it still lacks a browsing feature - that option went away a few "upgrades" ago. You cant read this like a book. Look up gonfalonier in this app and theres no way youll encounter gongoozler. This version only shows you the word you search for. The best electronic Shorter OED is still the CD-rom packaged with the 2007 hardcover. It has functional browsing and audible pronunciations. That valuable feature has never been available with any version of the app. If youre looking for an over-priced look-up tool, youd be hard pressed to do better. If you love reading the Shorter OED, this aint it.

Best iOS English dictionary

Much better coverage and definitions than other dictionaries for iOS. Minus two stars for having ads for Mobisofts other apps on the search page. This is an expensive premium dictionary--there is no excuse for taking up my screen space with ads.

Really disappointing app.

Trivial lexicon, little information, terrible search engine, no audio search, and all this for $30.00 that I can never get back. I expect great things from the OED and got a great ripoff instead.

Not Quite Complete

Add the pronunciation feature and its 100%.

Terrible. Dont throw away your money.

I had thought I was getting an app that would have the same - superlative and extensive -information on words and the history of words as in the printed version I own. No way! Given its cost, this app is almost a scam. BUT: do get the Farlex Dictionary Pro. Its so much better, and even lets you download foreign language dictionaries for free.
